What’s up with CCAN?

Please join us on October 26 for the Association of Livable Sustainable Communities Workshop. Four topic areas will allow you to share your values and vision for a more sustainable Mid-Columbia. This is a working meeting, so bring notes, reference materials and your creativity cap!

The Atomic Cooperative Market is having a general interest meeting and membership kick off on Sunday October 30, from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Richland Public Library. Visit their website or find them on Facebook for more information.

The farmers’ markets are slowing down for the season, with fewer vendors in attendance. Be sure to get your pumpkins, and winter squash and stock up on apples. Consider canning a last batch of tomatoes, or blanching and freezing other veggies. Many apples will keep through winter if you have a second fridge or cool garage. Pink Lady apples are the last one picked and store very well. They’re sweet-tart apples, so great for eating or baking.

Eating at least partially local year round is possible if you Shop The Northwest. Visit their new store at the corner of Goethals and Gillespie in Richland – limited hours, check their website for more info.

CCAN is no longer in the business of community gardening – we lost the site we’d been loaned in Kennewick when the owner sold the property.  However, we will still be promoting the idea, and are happy to educate and support community groups who wish to build one, or folks looking for a location to garden.
