Visit CCAN at the Hanford Health & Safety Fair
Why are we at this event?  Because communities that protect their air, land and water are healthier communities.  Because community gardens provide access to local, fresh food, excersise and fresh air.  Learn how we relate to health and safety in so many ways!  Volunteers welcome!  Please contact Lora at 375-1954.

Your Opinion is Valuable!
CCAN wants to know, do you ride the bus (or not)?  Please participate in our Rides of Passage survey.

Benton Franklin Council of Governments is also doing a regional transportation survey - let them know what you think about transportation issues in the Mid-Columbia.

More About Community Gardens

Who?
Anyone who wants access to their own fresh vegetables and fruit. Young people just gardening for the first time, and experienced 'green thumbs' ready to grow some more, and help others. People who have yards they can't grow veggies in (too much shade, too steep) and those with no yard at all. Seniors or singles who enjoy gardening, but don't need that much food are encouraged to grow food to donate to the food bank.

What?
A community garden is a shared space, where individuals or families lease a plot (or several) for a season to grow food or flowers.

Why?
Whether to grow food, or have access to flowers, gardening is shown to improve health. Gardening helps build community by bringing people together, and community gardens provide space for those who live in apartments, senior housing or other locations where land isn’t available.

Where?
There are spots available in Kennewick.  A Pasco garden is in the works and will be ready by next season. All plots are first come, first served.  Volunteers are also planting and tending beds in the Leslie/Gage vicinity to donate produce to the food banks.

Kennewick:
5405 West Metaline (at Edison)  email gardening@ccando.org or call 528-9377.
Work day's are scheduled for April weekends.

YOUR SPOT HERE!  If you have a great spot for a community garden, please let us know!

We need you!
In addition to site coordinators, we'll need donations of 2x6's for raised beds, fencing, irrigation equipment, hoses, tools, shade structures and benches, compost and mulch, or topsoil, seeds and plant starts.

For more information contact Lora Rathbone at 375-1954 or email.

Plants, seeds and seedlings will also be helpful. Site managers are needed for the Kennewick site.

How do others do it?
American Community Gardening Association has a nice website with a ton of great info.

Kids Gardening is a really amazing resource too!
