K-12 Education & Outreach
CCAN is well connected. We have the expertise locally, or can connect you to outside experts who can make outdoor education a part of every child’s learning experience.
Outdoor education is proven to help improve test scores, and it often reaches learners who may not do well within the confines of four walls. Whether you need ideas, volunteers, planning assistance, or funding CCAN can help your school.
Check out these great programs to help build sustainable schools.
Washington Green Schools – All k-12 schools can participate. Learn about transportation, recycling, energy savings and more.
Schoolyard Habitats – The National Wildlife Federation has an outstanding program to support the creation of schoolyard habitat with curricula to supplement learning.
Cool School Challenge – Reduce the carbon footprint of your school. Excellent curriculum, support from other’s who’ve led the way.
View the local directory of environmental education providers here or request a hard copy.
Additionally, efforts are underway to start some schoolyard gardens. Whether an edible schoolyard, or a habitat garden, gardening gets kids outside and provides opportunities for them to connect with science, math, creative writing, and art that they can’t get within the classroom walls.
Please contact us if you’d like to get a group together to start a garden at your school. ginger@ccando.org
